Improvers Climbing

Cost: £90 Instructor ratio: 1:4
Location: Hathersage, Peak District Duration: 2 days

This rock climbing course is designed to strengthen and develop your climbing skills. You will learn how to approach different aspects of climbing that are specific to outdoor rock climbing. A lot of time is spent putting theory in to practice.

We look at a range of rock climbing equipment in order to gain a better understanding of what specific items are designed for and how they work. This helps to build a familiarity with some of the equipment you will come to use as your climbing progresses. We pay a lot of attention to safety and aim to prepare you to become self sufficient climbers in the near future.

The course is two days long. During this time we will visit at least 2 different climbing locations. Where possible we will do some bouldering, but the main focus is on climbing routes.

Learning Outcomes

  • Build on crag safety and the use of guidebooks to find appropriate routes
  • Working on intermediate routes in order to introduce more advanced techniques
  • An in-depth look at climbing equipment, how its made, how strong is it and its correct use.
  • Learn the correct use of different knots for climbing, including the clove hitch and its uses
  • The removal of climbing equipment whilst following climbs as a second

As this course is based completely outdoors you need to be prepared for the weather conditions which vary depending on the time of year. All climbing equipment is supplied by First Mountains, but feel free to bring your own if you wish.
